Description of Research and Teaching
Dr. Cao studies mental health from life course perspective, focusing on pregnant women, child and adolescent health, with an interest in early experiences that impact on outcomes. Her research also examines association between stress and health care maintenance, mainly in cancer patients, infertile couples and healthcare professionals. Some multi-center study, longitudinal study and case-control study are thus established. Dr. Cao applies an transdisciplinary lens to health and cooperates with research group which are across professional boundaries.
In addition, issues related to mindfulness interventions and intergenerational risks of mental illness. Her ongoing research funded by The National Natural Science Fund of China is studying the mechanism of pregnant women’s stress responses influence offspring’s neuropsychological development by regulating neonatal gut microbiome, which provide a new insight into maternal and offspring’s mental health.
